George III was King of England on July 4, 1776. He is the one referred to in
The Madness of King George, a fine film based on a play by the
same title.
George III is well-known in children's history books as "the mad king who
lost America."
He habitually talked until the foam ran out of his mouth. Sometimes he
had convulsions, and his pages had to sit on him to keep him safe on
the floor.
He may have suffered from porphyria, symptoms of which included blue
urine and mental changes such as anxiety, confusion, hallucinations,
disorientation, or paranoia. According to the king's medical records, he
also was given gentian, a plant with deep blue flowers and possible side
effect of blue urine.
Still, there is no record that Mad King George ever incarcerated children.
